Archaeologists - 3D Scan

Monday, 1 August 2022

St Nicholas’ Church welcomed two archaeologists this morning for a site visit. They came to look round and discover whether there was any existing wood to take samples of to determine the date of the tower. In addition, they checked out the whole tower and church both internally and externally looking for any clues.

Unfortunately, no original wood was found so the archaeologists are now exploring the possibility that mortar could be used to date the church tower. A 3D scan will follow. These are the first steps towards solving the mystery surrounding our church’s age. A comprehensive report with photographs will be produced and made available. In addition, seminars are planned to explore the findings of all the investigative work.
