There is a narrow spiral staircase at the north-east corner of the tower which takes you all the way up to the roof. On the way up you pass a blocked doorway to the old ringing floor where the bell ringers stood, the clock chamber housing the chime barrel and the turret clock, and the bell chamber.
The chime barrel is an early one of very primitive design and is thought to be the work of a local blacksmith during the early part of the 17th century. It used to play five different tunes on the six bells above and was set off by the turret clock three times a day, at 12pm, 4pm and 8pm.
